Lairoux is a commune in Vendée which is a real refuge for birds. Partially flooded during the winter season, bird species find rest and food there. It is also from the spring, a place of pasture for cattle and equines, in collective management: the communal ones. It is a practice of common grazing (animals belonging to several farms), which finds its origins in the 12th century.
Close to Luçon, it is a commune in the Marais Poitevin Regional Nature Park.
