Damona Lodges: a peaceful retreat in the heart of nature in the Vendée region

Damona Lodges: a peac ...

In Vairé, just minutes from Les Sables-d'Olonne, a 50-hectare estate deliberately departs from the typical Vendée campsite. No entertainment program, no kids' club, no wave pool: Damona Lodges has built its identity on the opposite approach, focusing on silence, unspoiled nature, and a private spa all to yourself. This offering appeals to couples seeking a romantic getaway as well as families looking to breathe in the fresh air.

From La Chausserie to Damona Lodges, a local story

Behind Damona Lodges lies a family story, not an imported marketing concept. In 1995, the parents of the current owner acquired the Domaine de la Chausserie, 50 hectares in Vairé, which they renovated and replanted year after year: forest, marsh, reedbeds, and ponds. It is from this attachment to the place, and the desire to share it rather than keep it to themselves, that Damona Lodges was born. Today, it is run by Caroline, who brings her extensive knowledge of tourism in the Vendée region, and her husband Alexandre, who contributes the project's technical expertise.

Damona Lodges

Did you know? The name of the estate wasn't chosen at random: Damona is the Celtic goddess of rivers and springs, a nod to the Auzance River that borders the park. This local and family connection partly explains why the site remains classified as a Natura 2000 area today, with a clear commitment to protecting the flora and fauna rather than relegating them to the background in favor of tourism.

A domain designed for disconnecting

The park stretches along the Auzance River, between Corsican pine forests, marshes, and ponds where carp and black bass swim. Fallow deer, roe deer, foxes, and squirrels roam freely within a natural enclosure that protects the wildlife while making it accessible to curious visitors. It is here, in the heart of this deliberately uncrowded setting, that Damona Lodges has chosen to build its wooden cabins rather than rows of mobile homes.

The choice is deliberate: the estate limits its number of accommodations to preserve the tranquility of the place. Here, people don't come looking for activity, but for peace and quiet in the heart of nature. A rare promise on the Vendée coast during peak season.

Private spas, a true understated luxury

What truly sets Damona Lodges apart is the authenticity of its wellness offerings. Unlike many establishments that offer a simple, basic hot tub, the lodges on the estate provide genuine private spas, heated year-round to 36°C. Whether for a winter getaway or a starry summer evening, the hot tub remains accessible in complete privacy, without being shared with other guests.

Three different atmospheres are available to suit various preferences:

  • Rustic, with raw and natural materials;
  • Bohemian, between light wood, rattan and straw;
  • Ethnic, inviting travel and relaxation.

A bohemian lodge with a spa is also available for guests with reduced mobility. A significant detail during the peak season in the Vendée: all accommodations are air-conditioned, a comfort that makes all the difference during the summer heatwaves.

A destination open (almost) all year round

Another unique feature of the estate is that it remains accessible almost all year round, with the exception of a short one-month winter closure. This allows you to enjoy the tranquility of the site whether for an autumn weekend, a spring break, or a classic summer holiday, far from the crowds of the high seas season, just 15 km from Les Sables-d'Olonne and 25 km from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

The days unfold according to one's desires: a walk or mountain bike ride on the marked trails of the estate, a fishing trip by the pond, observing migratory birds in the marshes, or simply a nap on the terrace.

Fishing is free and open to guests staying at the property, with no fishing license required.

As for catering, there is no traditional restaurant on site, but an offer of 100% Vendée-made meal baskets and appetizer platters, prepared by local artisans and delivered directly to the lodge.

For those who fancy excursions, the Vendée beaches, the island of Yeu and Puy du Fou are accessible in less than an hour's drive.

Couples, families, businesses: an address that adapts

Damona Lodges tailors its offerings to different types of stays.

  • For couples, a romantic setting is possible upon arrival: rose petals, candles, champagne as an option in a setting that radically changes from classic hotels.
  • For families, the two-bedroom lodges allow you to enjoy together the vast natural playground that the estate offers.

The estate also features a reception hall, designed for both professional events and private celebrations. This is an added advantage for a site that knows how to offer more than just tourist accommodation.

By focusing on tranquility, authenticity, and understated luxury, Damona Lodges offers a rare escape on the Vendée coast: an unusual accommodation where nature reigns supreme, without ever sacrificing comfort. A place to discover for a romantic weekend, a family getaway, or an exceptional business meeting, book directly on the Damona Lodges website.
