    • Commune installed on the passage of the Boulogne river. It is an old fortified place where there was a fortified castle flanked on a hill, to protect the city from invasions. Powerful seigniorial families settled there. There are now only a few vestiges of this period: a tower and ramparts. Being formerly used for tanning, by dyers but also by millers to turn mills, the river is now a pretext for pleasant activities such as fishing but also canoeing. There is also a nautical base for renting boats and SUPs! Stroll through the city following the route guided by information panels.

To the northeast is Montaigu , a former royal town. Take a walk in the park of the ramparts as well as on the dike of Montaigu which was honored by a song, there is also the pretty park of Rochettes and a leisure base not far away. If it is not yet very developed for tourism, Montaigu remains nevertheless pleasant to can become an ideal base for wandering in the region. Heading north, see the Château de Clisson , a stone fortress established at a strategic point to defend the town. We recommend the guided tour which allows you to understand the important historical context and make the most of the visit to the castle.
