    • Talmont Castle is an old coastal fortress whose first masonry remains date back to 1020, making it one of the oldest stone castles in France!

The site contains a primitive enclosure of approximately two hundred and fifty linear meters as well as a main tower in an exceptional state of conservation, which has no less than five levels still in elevation.

Former property of Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine, then of her son Richard the Lionheart, this castle is not only an exceptional architectural and heritage object , but also a historic place imbued with essential personalities in the history of France.

Classified as a Historic Monument since 2009, Talmont Castle is an unmissable cultural site in Vendée. A rich program of shows (chivalry, falconry, nocturnal events), entertainment, visits and events (Egg Hunt, Medieval Festival, Murder Party) contribute to the promotion and transmission of the place.

A very old castle, which focuses its tourism upon its time ruled by King Richard I. A fantastic place with, shows, kids events and freedom to walk about. While no means large, it's quaint, fun and everyone seems to relish working there.

A great castle - but that is easy for me to say as i just like ' old stuff'. The site is clearly set up for spectacular re-enactments, but for us on Saturday was just a regular castle. It sounds patronising, buf it is always beneficial to see history from someone else's perspective. Perhaps I'm just easily impressed. A (reported) fact in passing: Richard the Lionheart could speak English. But that apart - see the castle!

Nice show, telling the historical story about the castle and its king. Small downside if you're not into French: the whole story is told in French. Further, you can actively play old games from the age of knights and have a look at the castle. Prices are ok seen the activities you can enjoy.
