Directions Talmont Castle - An ancient seaside fortress dating from 1920 in Vendée

About

  • English
    • Talmont Castle is an ancient coastal fortress whose first masonry remains date back to 1020, making it one of the oldest stone castles in France !

The site contains a primitive enclosure of approximately two hundred and fifty linear meters as well as a main tower in an exceptional state of preservation, which has no less than five levels still in elevation.

Former property of Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine, then of her son Richard the Lionheart, this castle is not only an exceptional architectural and heritage object, but also a historic place marked by key figures in the history of France.

Listed as a Historic Monument since 2009, Talmont Castle is a must-see cultural site in Vendée. A rich program of shows (chivalry, falconry, night shows), entertainment, visits and events (egg hunt, medieval festival, murder party) contribute to the promotion and transmission of the place.
