What could be more romantic and beautiful than a magnificent sunset? Embark on a superb 5km walk starting from Jard-sur-Mer in southern Vendée. Whatever the time of year, you can enjoy this wonderful spectacle. You can even go several times; each walk will be unique, with a different light.

What is there to see at Pointe du Payré?

This spot offers a panoramic view of the Payre estuary. It's at Pointe du Payré that the Payré River meets the Atlantic Ocean. This natural site is so incredible that it's even the number one remarkable site in the Vendée region. You can see why you absolutely must discover it! It's so exceptional that it's part of the Natura 2000 network. The main objective is the preservation of local flora and fauna. Indeed, protecting biodiversity is a priority in this fragile and constantly changing coastal area.

A walk between the forest, the Veillon dunes and the cliffs

An easy walk awaits you. However, good footwear is recommended, as the ground varies! Sometimes you'll be walking on sand, so soft underfoot, but other times the ground is carpeted with pine needles and roots, which are considerably less pleasant underfoot! Part of the path is made of wooden decking. It's easier to walk on than on the sand, and more importantly, it helps protect and stabilize the dune.

The route offers a rich and varied landscape. Most of the walk is shaded by holm oaks and maritime pines that line this forest path. At times, you'll walk alongside the dune ridge. In certain places, you can even cross it (always at designated points to avoid damaging the dune) to walk directly on the cliffs. These cliffs remain fragile and are crumbly in places. Always be vigilant and take care to follow the signs to avoid any accidents.

Diverse and varied landscapes, but always magnificent

The starting point is the Mine beach parking lot. It's free and shaded. Then, simply follow the first sign indicating " Pointe du Payré," and you're on the right path. It's impossible to get lost; the path only leads to the Pointe! It's a loop, so you can walk along the sea side twice if you want to fully appreciate every moment, every square inch of this natural environment. Otherwise, you can simply complete the loop in the usual way.

When you're on the cliffs at sunset, you can settle down for a break, a nap, or simply to contemplate the endless ocean and savor the moment. The light of the setting sun is truly perfect for stunning photos. You can also head to Pointe du Payré at the end of the day with friends for an impromptu aperitif (in moderation, of course). Moments of joy and merriment guaranteed!

Romanticism is definitely present on the paths of Pointe du Payré

Once you reach the point, watch the Payré gradually advance, carried by the waves and the tide, until it reaches the ocean. With a bit of luck, you might witness paddleboarders gliding peacefully across the water. Or perhaps, on that particular day, it will be surfers, vigorously taking on the ocean waves.
