The medieval castle of Pouzauges was part of the possessions of the Viscounts of Thouars, a very prestigious family from Vendée. Built in the 12th century to protect the Gâtinais hill, it consisted of a square keep and buttress towers. It is now in ruins and inaccessible to the public, but still dominates the valley. You will see it from afar and climbing the promontory, you will have a breathtaking view of the beautiful Vendée landscapes.
