In the past, the commune of Les Herbiers was called "Ardelay", this is where the name of the Ardelay Castle comes from, built on a hill overlooking the commune. Originally, it was a motte castrale, that is to say a wooden tower and fortifications, placed on top of a hillock. The remains that have come down to us date from the 15th century. The guided tour will take you to the dungeon and the dwellings, built around an interior courtyard. The building is paired with a large square tower. In a second enclosure, you reach the church and its cemetery. The visit is offered free of charge. During the summer, an escape game on the theme of the Vikings is organized there.
