Sunset on the Pointe du Payré

What could be more romantic and more beautiful to see than a magnificent sunset? Go for a superb 5 km walk, starting from Jard-sur-Mer, in southern Vendée. Whatever the time of year, you can enjoy this wonderful spectacle. You can even go there several times, each walk will be unique, with a different light.

What is there to see at Pointe du Payré?

This place is quite simply a panoramic viewpoint over the Payre estuary. It is at the Pointe du Payré that the Payré river meets the Atlantic Ocean. It is a natural site so incredible that even 1 Site remarkable Vendée. You understand why you need to find out urgently! It is so exceptional that it is part of the Natura 2000 program (fr). The main objective being the preservation of the local fauna and flora. Indeed, the protection of biodiversity is a priority on this fragile and constantly changing coastal territory.

Walk between forest, Veillon dunes and cliffs

It is a walk without any difficulty that awaits you. Nevertheless, it is preferable to be well-shod, because the grounds are changing! Sometimes you will walk in the sand, so soft under your feet, but sometimes it is the needles and the roots of pines which coat the ground, and which are much less pleasant under the sole of the foot!! Part of the trail is wood decking. It is easier to circulate there than on the sand, but above all it helps to protect and fix the dune.

The route is rich and varied in terms of landscapes. Most of the walk takes place in the shade of the holm oaks and maritime pines that adorn this forest path. Sometimes you will follow the dune cord. You can even, in some places, cross it (always in the places indicated so as not to damage the dune) to walk directly on the cliffs. These remain fragile, and in places they are friable. Always be vigilant and take care to respect the signage to avoid any accident.

 

Diverse and varied landscapes, but always magnificent

The starting point is at the Mine beach car park. It is free and shady. Then, you just have to follow the first sign which indicates "Pointe du Payré", and you are on the right path. Impossible to get lost, the path only goes to the Pointe! It's a loop so you have the possibility to pass twice on the sea side if you want to memorize every moment, every square centimeter of this natural environment, otherwise, it is quite possible for you to do the loop normally.

When you are on the cliffs at sunset, you can settle down there to take a break, a nap, or simply to contemplate the ocean as far as the eye can see and enjoy the present moment. The brightness of the setting sun is really perfect for shots of the most beautiful effect. You can also go to Pointe du Payré at the end of the day, with your friends, to improvise a small aperitif*. Moments of joy and cheerfulness guaranteed!

Romanticism is indeed present on the paths of Pointe du Payré

Once at the tip, observe the Payré which advances gradually, over the waves and the tide, until it reaches the ocean waters. With a bit of luck, you might be able to enjoy the spectacle of paddleboards gliding peacefully through the water. Unless, that day it's surfers, vigorously attacking the waves of the ocean.
